People who bought into the idea of a MacOS X server got duped. just tried to download from the App Store and it works on my M1 MacBook Pro on OS 12.1 now all I have to do is migrate from my old server to the New Mac mini M1 we have just purchased. Tl dr As I said above, servers were never really the focus for Apple. In the meantime, the Carbon-less MacOS X they had ready for shipping was released as MacOS X Server 1.0 so they could make some money out of it and collect feedback and bug reports from power users. I have tried to take the 'Server.app' from the Applications folder on the Mac Mini and transferred it to the Applications folder on my laptop. I would like to be able to open Server.app from my Laptop connected on the same network. I have placed it in a closet as my home server. OS X provides read-only FTP access in Finder, you can press Command-K in a Finder window and enter the FTP URL (something like ), and connect to FTP Server. I purchased a Mac Mini with Server last year. So Apple backtracked and worked on a method to allow for easy porting of classic MacOS apps to MacOS X by supporting most of the classic MacOS API in MacOS X (which they called the Carbon API). FTP Server lets you run the FTP service on your own computer and you can access the files on the host computer with any standard FTP client such as FileZilla.
